Tigers in the Snow

Tigers in the Snow

Tigers in the Snow

“Tigers in the Snow”—that wasn’t just a clever title, it was the actual truth of what happened in the Ardennes. Peiper and his SS boys came charging with their big, shiny King Tigers, the heaviest brutes the Germans could throw on a battlefield. They thought those monsters would smash through anything in their way.

But tanks don’t win wars by themselves. The snow was deep, the roads were narrow, and fuel was scarce. Our boys—American infantry, artillery, and tankers—kept hammering them from every side, day after day, bleeding them dry. Those great Tigers ended up stuck in the woods, running on fumes, while our men boxed them in.

In the end, Peiper’s vaunted force had to abandon their precious tanks right there in the snow. The lesson? I don’t give a care how thick your armor is—when you run into Americans who won’t quit, you’ll find out that guts, brains, and relentless pressure beat steel every time.

Operation Market Garden (Overlord)

Operation Market Garden (Overlord)

Operation Market Garden (Overlord Map)

Operation Market Garden, fought in September 1944, was a major Allied offensive during World War II aimed at ending the war quickly by capturing key bridges in the Netherlands and entering Germany’s industrial heartland.

The operation combined a massive airborne assault (Market) by British, American and Polish paratroopers with a ground advance (Garden) by British XXX Corps. The goal was to seize bridges over several rivers, including the Rhine at Arnhem, to create a direct route into Germany.

Listen up, men—Operation Market Garden was bold, daring, and damned near brilliant on paper. Our boys dropped from the sky and stormed bridges across Holland like thunder on the move. They seized their early targets with guts and grit—but at Arnhem, the lion met the cage. The British 1st Airborne fought like hell for every inch, surrounded, outgunned, and cut off from relief.

In the end, the last bridge stayed in enemy hands. The link-up failed, and what was meant to end the war early turned into a costly lesson in overreach. We aimed for glory—and came up “a bridge too far”.

🔥 Winning as Allies

1.  The Allies have an overwhelming tank force on their right flank. They will need to attack vociferously and eliminate all enemy forces in that section, so that they can turn their armor to attack the central sections.

2. You can get some early medals by attacking the enemy forces which were surprised and surrounded by your forces in the left and right sections. There are two infantry units on each side which you can quickly take out, and gain some early medals.

3.  Watch out for the Tiger Tank on your left flank. It can only be taken out with two successful rolls, first an armor or grenade roll, and then the second roll must be a grenade.

medal axis

🔥 Winning as Axis

1.  As Axis, because of the surprise nature of this attack, you only start with three Combat Cards vs. the Allies 13!.  But every time you take out an Allied unit, the Allied Commander loses a card (which you get to pull from his hand), and you are given a new card from the deck (not the one from his hand) and your total cards to use each turn increases.  So as the battle progresses the card ratio will begin to even out, until eventually the Axis will have more cards than the Allies.  Cards are attack-ability, so your attack-ability will increase, as the other’s declines.

2.  Your tanks, since you were not suspecting the airborne attack, are not in play at the start of the game. You will need to use some of your early turns to get them into attack positions.  And because the tanks can only move two hexes in this scenario (unless start and ending on a road, when they can move 4 hexes), it will take two to three turns to get them into place. So you need to start early.

3.  Control of the three bridge medals is based on being either on the bridge hex, or in the nearby vicinity of the six hexes surrounding it.  But note that if the enemy is able to get into the proximity of the bridge, you will lose that bridge medal until you clear them out. If the bridge is contested, then no one gets the medal. So keep the enemy forces well away from your bridges!

Villers-Bocage

Villers-Bocage

Villers-Bocage

The Battle of Villers-Bocage took place on June 13, 1944, during the Normandy Campaign in World War II. It was a significant tank engagement between British and German forces near the town of Villers-Bocage in France, shortly after the D-Day landings.

Listen up, men—this was no parade down the Champs-Élysées. The British 7th Armoured Division—the famed “Desert Rats”—thought they’d found a hole in the German line near Caen and charged in, hungry for glory. But out of the hedgerows came Michael Wittmann and his awesome Tigers, ambushing them in the narrow streets of Villers-Bocage. In minutes, British columns were burning wrecks—armor smashed, morale shaken.

But here’s the thing: Wittmann’s brilliance bought the Germans nothing lasting. The Rats pulled back, regrouped, and the Tigers couldn’t press the advantage. The town lay in ruins, but the campaign rolled on. Villers-Bocage stands as a brutal reminder—urban fighting is hell, and courage alone doesn’t win the day. You need discipline, coordination, and the will to keep moving forward, no matter what roars out of the fog.

Allied Strategy

1. The only way you can hope to win is by bunching up your forces. Do not try to take on a Tiger Tank, one at a time.

2.  Attack the units without forest protection first, as you will be able to roll triple the attack power.

3.  You will need to force them out of the forest. Once they leave the forest hex, they cannot return.  So a one-two punch is the way to go. Your first tank forces can attack, and hopefully roll a Flag, which will force the enemy out into the open. Then your second tank forces can roll a 3D attack and hopefully secure a kill.

4. As long as the Axis forces stay in their woods for protection, you can backoff and move out of attack range, while you get the rest of your forces on your right flank organized and into action.

medal axis

Axis Strategy

1.  Stay in the woods as long as you can, and keep attacking the enemy from there as long as they are in range.  Because the enemy can only roll one dice against you in the woods, the odds of them rolling a hit, and then a second dice with a grenade are exceedingly low.

2.  One of your Tigers is already out in the open, so plan on moving and attacking with that one first, but stay close to your other Tigers for support.  Do not venture into a forward position where the enemy can surround you from behind.
