Sword Beach
June 6, 1944: British troops land on Sword Beach on the eastern flank of the Normandy invasion and must force their way inland through prepared German defenses.
Battlefield: The beach has no hills or bluffs to slow the Allied advance, but a centrally placed Axis artillery unit commands the open approaches. Three towns near the German rear line offer the Allies objective medals.
Briefing & tactical challenge
- Allies: Get off the beach quickly. Use your elite infantry and armor to press both flanks and avoid a costly frontal approach to the central artillery.
- Axis: Delay the Allied advance, protect the artillery, and punish units that race toward the towns without support.
- Objectives: Three town hexes provide objective medals. The first side to earn five medals wins.
Command challenge: Can the Allies split into a two-flank assault and reach the towns before the Axis defense turns the open beach into a killing ground?
Scenario details and tactical guidance are drawn from the General Howitzer Sword Beach guide.
