The special abilities of the Japanese ( Seishin Kyoiku & Banzai War Cry mainly) work to build out a really powerful attack. If you are able to keep your units fully intact, then the ability to rush forward two hexes and make a Close Assault with a five dice roll is really powerful. I know that the Marines, with their Gung Ho! ability can counter this a bit.
