When to Advance the Artillery

Quote from GeneralHowitzer on 2025-05-01, 18:35The question often arises, 'when do I advance my artillery?'
In the heat of the battle, a commander may feel that there is no time to advance, or move the artillery forward, in order to increase dice rolls from 1D to 2D.
Sometimes there isn't time.
So how to decide?
Artillery firepower is measured as:
1D - Lite Attack Strength
2D - Standard Attack Strength
3D - Overwhelming Firepower Strength
Guidelines:
A. If you are already at Standard Attack Strength, this is good. If you are in the middle of battle, and cannot move up, do not worry about it. With your ability to ignore all terrain restrictions, regular 2D rolls will quickly degrade the enemy's attack ability.
B. If you are only rolling 1D, then you need to push up as soon as you can. A great time to do it, is in concert with a strong attack card. If you get an Attack (3 figures), or better yet, an Assault (everone in a section), then you can move and attack with all the others, but reserve your Artillery, for just a move. Since you already have two or more other units attacking, you can usually afford to have a reduced attack this time in the hopes of doubling your Artillery attack hits for all future rolls.
